Knitters don't cross that line between knitting and crocheting, although the line may be blurring.
There's a reason why knitters don't crochet. To me, crocheting conjures images of those dreadful granny square afghans, and sweaters with absolutely no shape or elasticity to them.
But then I saw this: crocheted nudes on exhibit in Washington.
I guess they're causing quite a stir, you can see and read about it on MSN:
crocheted nudes
I'm now convinced that an artist can create beauty in any medium.
Yes, even crocheting.
The article is cute because, like so many people, the writer seems a bit confused between knitting and crocheting, as if one were a variety of the other.
I may not be a crochet artist, but I feel oh-so-wise for having read this. I know the difference. Knitting rocks, crocheting rolls. It takes two, baby.
There are lots of reasons to knit rather than crochet. Since there are way more crocheters than knitters, I don't have to worry about knocking elbows with another knitter on an airplane. What are the chances? :-)
And I'll never be tempted to create granny squares.
