Pima Silk is an exceptionally strong yarn from Frog Tree. The silk makes the yarn much softer than traditional cottons.
How can you buy yarns and do good in the world at the same time? Buy from Frog Tree - they are a not-for-profit company with a Fair Trade pledge, which means they support environmentally sound growing practices, paying fair wages, not using exploitative hiring practices, and donating their profits to educational programs in the areas where the fibers originate.
The yarn I sampled knit up on #5s, and the 85% pima cotton, 15% silk is very soft. It is a four-ply yarn that doesn't split easily and knits up very evenly.
This one is a thumbs-up, even if like me you normally are not a fan of knitting with cotton. There isn't the usual chunky, amateurish look to the finished project. The silk gives it a bit of drape - hard to visualize in a 4x4 sample, but true.
