This 100% hemp yarn comes in many lustrous colors, is strong and does not pill, and knits up at 5.5 stitches per inch on number 5 needles.
Lanaknits gives a wonderful write-up about the virtues of hemp on their website. They say that it softens with repeated washings. This I am still testing.
Personally, I could not wear a knitted 100% hemp fabric against my skin. A jacket? Maybe. But this yarn may be the best fiber ever for knitting shopping bags and purses, weaving belts and wall hangings, and I see that heirloom knitting is a no-brainer in this case, I think the yarn may last forever.
I've experimented with and enjoyed knitting small rugs, and I think this yarn would be absolutely perfect for that application. Knitted chair cushions - a definite yes, as well as pillow covers and potholders.
I'm sure your imagination can take it from there. Hemp is good for the planet too, so if strength, durability, and eco-friendly are your concerns, you'll want to try this yarn. I'm going to keep on washing my swatch and see if it softens up. Meanwhile, others may like it just fine the way it is.
