Ty-Dy is a variegated cotton yarn that knits up at 5 stitches per inch on #7 needles.
I'm not a fan of cotton, but Ty-Dy is very soft, especially when compared to the coarsest yarn ever, the hemp I've written about before.
That said, it's still cotton. Cotton stretches and loses its shape, my main complaints about cotton. That and the fact that it is more difficult to knit up than many other fibers because of the absence of elasticity.
For a cotton, this yarn knits up easily, and the softness is unusual for a 100% cotton yarn.
BUT...I don't like variegated yarns for much else besides accents and accessories such as scarves. If you like the tie dye effect, you'll love this yarn. My swatch was a tiny 4-inch by 4-inch sample so I didn't get all the variations.
My sample was using the yarn on the right hand side of the photo above. I only got the green part, which is lovely. I was amazed to see this photo with all the colors in an entire ball.
Not being a fan, all I can say is ick. But if rainbow dyed cotton yarn is your thing, you'll love this one for softness and ease of knitting.
